CoWatch lets you watch videos with friends at the same time, talk while you watch, and keep up with each other. We built it to keep as little about you as we can. Most of what CoWatch knows stays on your phone.
What stays on your phone
Your friends list, your chats with friends, what you have watched together, the moments you keep, your looks and your settings live on your phone. If you turn on backup, a sealed copy goes to your own Google Drive; we never hold it.
What our servers keep
- Your public card: your display name, your username, your photo or initial, a public key your phone made, and a push address so friends can ring you. This is what lets friends find and reach you.
- Group and club messages: passed on sealed, so we cannot read them. Clubs keep 30 days of sealed history so members can catch up.
- Rooms: while a room is open, the room's timing (play, pause, where everyone is) passes through our server when phones cannot reach each other directly. The video itself comes from the site or the file you chose; we do not store it. Voice goes between the phones in the room.
- Seasons: only if you choose to take part, your minutes and points together, which both phones confirm.
- Reports: if you report someone, what you send us, kept for 180 days.
- Feature votes: your picks, tied to a scrambled form of your key, never your name.
- Usage counts: once a day, a few totals with no name or identifier (how many rooms, how many minutes), so we know CoWatch is working.
- Problem reports: when something goes wrong, or when you send a report, CoWatch sends what we need to fix it, such as which screen and what happened. During early access, testers' phones also send CoWatch's own log, kept for 7 days.
- Early access: if you leave your email on our page, we keep it to send your invite, and delete it on request.
Payments
Subscriptions are handled by Google Play. We learn whether your subscription is active; we never see your card.
What we never do
We do not sell your information, show ads, or share what you watch or say with anyone. We use Google's services to deliver rings and notifications and Cloudflare to run our servers; they process only what is needed for that.
Your choices
- Turn off being found by username, showing your rooms to friends, echoes and seasons in Settings.
- Download your data, or delete your account, in Settings › Privacy and safety. See Delete your account.
Children
CoWatch is not meant for children under 13.
